Sakamoto Ryuichi was still a student at the Tokyo University of the Arts when he made his professional musical debut in 1975, playing piano on an album by the outstanding folk singer Tomobe Masato.

At a time when the young culture in Japan was progressively becoming more recognized, Sakamoto contributed to a growing pop scene.

Both live and in the studio, he worked with Japanese artists Yamashita Tatsur, Nakajima Miyuki, Yazawa Eikichi, Yano Akiko, Ohtaki Eiichi, and Nuki Taeko.

All contributed to the development of Japanese music and influenced future musicians.
