He is also well-known on the internet as the person who the police interviewed for hours while he was struggling after being shot twice in the head. His case finally became one of civil rights abuses and police wrongdoing, from the police failing to treat him immediately to disregarding his grave brain injuries for hours.

The case is also known for being riddled with disinformation. Many random people and the media conducted follow-up interviews with Ryan’s family and friends, and what came up was a list of conspiracies and allegations claiming that the police did not treat Ryan fairly and that there was more to the story.

Even the chief detectives and the entire police department were put on the spot. Read a detailed account of what happened, with all the gruesome facts and aftereffects, as well as write-ups about Waller’s life, including his birth, girlfriend, and more.

A Few Facts About Ryan Waller’s Childhood

Ryan Waller completely According to his obituary, Ryan Thomas Waller was born on February 12, 1988.

Not much is known about Waller’s past; however, when he was younger, the victim turned suspect enjoyed playing the guitar. Donald Thomas Waller, sometimes known as Don, once stated that Waller was the type of youngster who could rhyme fresh son on his own melody within a few moments of hearing it.

He was also a gadget enthusiast. While Waller was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, he lived in Phoenix, Arizona at the time of his death and possibly before.

What happened to Ryan Waller and his girlfriend Heather Quan on the day of the shooting?

It was around the afternoon of December 23, 2006. Ryan and his girlfriend were seated near the living room/or their own room when Larry Carver and his son, Ritchie, arrived at Waller’s door seeking retribution for an alleged confrontation in the past.

Heather and Ryan were living in the same house as another roommate, Alicia. Alicia, on the other hand, had left the house that day. Ryan and Heather had rented the property, which was located at the end of a cul-de-sac.

The late couple had only been in the residence for about a month and a half at this point.

When they arrived at Waller’s doorway, they rang it, and Ryan came out to see who it was. He supposedly recognized them and hesitated to open the door. Carver and his son forced their way inside Waller’s house, and as the Knoxville native tried to shut the door, Richie slipped his arm inside and shot Ryan twice in the head.

He then walked to Ryan’s room, where Heather was seated on the couch, and shot her to death. Richie allegedly murdered her because the father-son team did not want any witnesses. After the shooting, Richie and his father seized some guns and a computer from the scene.

However, the true nature of the incident has multiple narratives.

Ryan’s most talked-about story is as follows:

The Phoenix Police Department arrived at Ryan’s apartment some time after the event and discovered Waller, who had been shot twice in the head but was still alive.

Surprisingly, he was also able to identify the shooters. Ryan was found with an abnormally swollen black eye and wounds on his nose and cheeks, according to the authorities.

Waller’s other stories are as follows:

According to investigators, the gunshots occurred sometime in the afternoon on Christmas Day 2006. Don, Ryan’s father, on the other hand, had contacted his son and his girlfriend several times to remind them of Christmas dinner.

Don and his wife (Waller’s mother) headed to their son’s house after not receiving a response from him. They looked outside and rang the doorbell, but no one was there. They eventually phoned the cops.

Alicia had arrived at the residence before police discovered Ryan and Heather’s bodies, but she had not checked into their room. And, strangely, she never came across Don and his wife, even though they had previously searched the house. Despite the fact that Ryan’s parents had reached the house while it was still daylight.

Alicia had returned home late that night, and cops had arrived shortly after. Police knocked on Ryan and Heather’s door but received no response.

The officers eventually discovered the bodies through vertical blinds. They quickly detained Ryan and brought him to their car. Don and his wife were denied access to their son by the police. They did not additionally take their son to the hospital.

Ryan Was Subjected To Horrible Interrogation

Ryan would sit in the patrol cars for four hours after being arrested, with no medical attention. Ryan was transported to the interrogation station at 5 a.m. the next day.

While Waller was still injured and in pain, Detective Paul Dalton questioned him. Ryan didn’t say anything during the interrogation except that he wanted to sleep.

The cops then inquired about Ritchie and other matters. The detective also supposedly tried to force Ryan to reveal that he was the one who murdered Heather, but he never did.

Ryan was rushed to the hospital despite suffering severe facial injuries.

Ryan was taken to the hospital only after several hours of interrogation. Don was later informed by the authorities that his son, Waller, was in critical condition.

According to the physicians, Ryan developed a severe illness due to the absence of timely medical assistance.

Waller spent 35 days in the hospital recovering. Ryan was healing when he lost a portion of his brain. Ryan lost his left sight permanently and had seizures for several years after leaving the hospital.

What became of the individuals who shot Ryan and his girlfriend?

Ritchie was arrested nearly a week after Ryan Waller was released from the hospital. Ritchie’s mother turned in his father, Larry, the next week. Larry’s son, Ritchie, was the first to be sentenced.

Ritchie Lee Carver’s conviction came five years before his father’s, in 2008. He was sentenced to life in jail without the possibility of parole.

Ritchie was found guilty of Felony Murder, Burglary, Aggravated Assault, and Weapon Misconduct.

Initially, the court was unable to indict Larry because his wife refused to testify against him, citing marital rights. Heather’s family later lobbied for a new rule that negated the aforementioned protection, forcing Ritchie’s mother to appear in court. Larry was re-indicted in November 2011 for First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Burglary, and Aggravated Assault.

In December 2012, a Maricopa County Jury found Larry Lloyd Carver guilty on multiple counts in connection with the 2006 murder of Heather M. Quan. The jury also held Carver responsible for the attempted murder of her boyfriend, Ryan T Waller.

On January 25, 2013, Carver was sentenced to the potential of spending the rest of his life in jail after a ten-day trial. According to some, it was done without parole.

According to reports, Ryan Waller’s parents are still seeking justice.

Ryan and Don launched a lawsuit against the Phoenix Police Department several years after Ritchie and Larry were sentenced. Don said that the police provided false information concerning the day of the shootings.

Dalton, the investigator who interrogated Ryan, was also accused of tampering with evidence and fabricating his own version of events in the case.

Dalton appears to have had a contentious professional background, particularly in the way he handled his previous cases.

In the past, he had placed blinders on the incorrect individual and failed to follow the procedures in order to conclude a case. The Phoenix Police Department is currently under investigation for how they handled Ryan and his case.

The US Department of Justice also contacted the authorities engaged in Ryan’s interrogation.

Why Ryan and Heather Quan Were Shot

There are numerous theories as to why Larry and his son attempted to assassinate Waller and his girlfriend, Heather. One of the reasons, as previously stated, was that Ryan and Richie had previously engaged in an argument.

Waller and Larry’s son were formerly roommates, and they had a running feud for quite some time. Ritchie may have hit on Heather, which Ryan did not like.

On the other hand, there were reports that Ritchie and Waller had battled each other with firearms. Ritchie also had a falling out with Eric, the former resident of the house Ryan and Heather were living in and Ritchie’s ex-roommate.

Some believe Ritchie was simply envious of Ryan’s nice possessions.

Ryan Waller passed away in the mid-2010s.

Ryan died on January 20, 2016, almost ten years after the incident, according to obituaries from Dignity Memorial and Legacy.

The Arizona resident died as a result of a seizure that triggered a burst in the brain, resulting in fatal hemorrhage.

Ryan’s father did not opt to charge Larry and Ritchie with his son’s murder because he believed they were already serving life sentences without the possibility of release.

Where Have His Parents Gone?

Ryan’s father, Don, and his wife have generally avoided media attention since their son’s death. However, the late Waller’s father frequently appears for one or two q and as.

Don frequently speaks on podcasts and provides interviews about his son, including his background, what truly happened that day, and how he and his family are still pursuing justice for their son. His final interview was allegedly in September 2021.
