Baseball great Don Gullett’s loving wife, Cathy Holcomb, has been a vital source of support during his incredible journey both inside and beyond Major League Baseball.

From 1970 until 1978, Donald Edward Gullett was a prominent American professional baseball player and coach who was most known for his skill as a left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball.

A cornerstone of the Cincinnati Reds dynasty, he was essential in helping the team win two World Series and four National League pennants between 1970 and 1976.

His extraordinary talent was not limited to any one team; it was a major factor in the New York Yankees’ two World Series victories in a row in 1977 and 1978.

The coach’s influence extended beyond his brilliant playing career; he served as the Reds’ pitching coach from 1993 to 2005, and his efforts earned him a spot in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2002.

Regretfully, Gullett died on February 14, 2024, at the age of 73, leaving baseball fans with a priceless legacy.

Don Gullett Cathy is the wife.

Don Gullett was a legendary pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds who wore the number 35 jersey.

But he went home to his wife, Cathy, and a devoted family, far from the din of the crowd.

The two met at McKell High School, fell in love, and were married in 1969—the same year that Gullett rose quickly through the Reds farm system.

Cathy accepted her responsibilities as a wife and mother while the American professional baseball player established himself as one of the game’s most formidable left-handers.

Early in their marriage, she gave birth to their first child, Don Jr., who started the journey of a close-knit family.

Cathy gave the instructors unwavering support, company, and viewpoint behind the scenes.

Even though the lights of Major League stadiums could be dazzling, Don was kept firmly rooted in deeper love and purpose by Cathy.

Following Gullett’s 1976 trade to the Yankees, Cathy embraced the rigors of Bronx life.

She also remained steadfastly by his side when the professional baseball player’s promising career was cut short later on due to injuries.

Cathy’s impact grounded their family’s history in numerous ways.

Her kind assistance enabled him to flourish on the field, and her compassionate parenting brought intimacy into their home life.

The Gulletts considered marriage and family to be the two most sacred commitments in life.

Don Gullett Children

Don Jr., Tracey, and Angela are the three new members of the Gullett family.

The love of baseball ran deep in their home, where it permeated every aspect of their everyday existence.

The oldest, Don Jr., followed in his father’s footsteps and left baseball to pursue a career as a coach following a successful playing career.

His career as a coach started at Northern Kentucky University and ended with awards including Turpin High’s Coach of the Year title in 2019.

Tracey and Angela, albeit less well-known, were important characters in the Gullett family’s narrative.

Each person contributed familial links and a collective experience that impacted their upbringing.

The Gullett Family Don

Don Jr. cultivated a lucrative coaching career and carried on the family’s love of baseball, strengthening the Gullett family’s links to the game.

Tracey and Angela, meantime, carved up careers for themselves away from the spotlight and made distinctive contributions to their family’s history.

Even with the demands of Gullett’s baseball career, Cathy never wavered in her commitment to her husband and kids, providing them with love and support.

They found refuge in their home in Lynn, Greenup County, Kentucky, where they fought obstacles together and embraced achievements.

In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Gullett’s legacy also includes the love and resilience of the family he and Cathy created.

This is a tale of love, resiliency, and the unbreakable kindred tie that goes beyond baseball.
