Pennsylvania Morgan Yoney: Family Mourns The Loss

The loss of Morgan Yoney left a vacuum in her family’s hearts. Everyone who is close to her is thinking about this difficult time.

Morgan was born with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that primarily affects the digestive system and lungs and frequently calls for organ donations.

She had previously undergone a liver and lung transplant when she was 15 years old, but three years later she experienced lung rejection.

Morgan underwent her second double-lung transplant at UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after more than two years of searching for a lung donor.

Her kidneys were also impacted by her declining health, which led to her admittance to the intensive care unit.

The news that Morgan and her family would be getting new lungs was a Christmas miracle.

On Wednesday morning, Morgan got a call telling her that a set of donated lungs from Chicago was being considered for her.

She got in touch with her mother Tammy right away, who rejoiced and worried about the donor family, who would be devastated over the holidays.

Following approval for the transplant at about 5 a.m. on Thursday, Morgan underwent surgery at 7 a.m.

Morgan was excited and anxious during the operation, according to Tammy. Her surgeons continued to provide updates every couple of hours throughout the nearly 12-hour procedure.

Tammy had anticipated that Morgan would have a long and happy life after the transplant, but things did not turn out as she had imagined.

On Thursday night, she would be put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation so that Morgan’s heart and lungs could have some rest.
