Tony Jaa began his career performing stunts at Muay Thai Stunt, where he spent 14 years and made appearances in a number of Panna’s movies. The Thai TV show “Insee Daeng” (Red Eagle) included him as a stunt double. In order to produce a movie on Muay Boran, the precursor of Muay Thai, Panna, and Tony worked and trained in the discipline for four years.
This actor’s first notable role was in “Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior” in 2003, and his second notable film was “Tom-Yum-Goong” (known in the US as “The Protector”). Later, Sahamongkol Feature International said that Prachya and Tony had an argument that would prevent them from working together on their third film, “Sword” or “Daab Atamas,” which neither party has verified.
In March 2006, it was revealed that “Ong-Bak” will be followed by “Ong-Bak 2,” which would debut in December 2008. Jackie Chan was intrigued by Tony’s works and requested him to feature in Brett Ratner’s “Rush Hour 3,” which was directed by Jackie Chan. The third film in Chatrichalerm Yukol’s “King Naresuan” trilogy had him cast in a supporting part, but the production was abandoned.
The Thai trilogy came to an end with the 2010 release of “Ong Bak 3”. Together with Panna Rittikrai, he also worked on “Ong Bak 3,” the sequel to “Ong Bak 2,” in 2010.
On May 28, 2010, he entered a Buddhist temple in Surin, Thailand, where he became a monk. After leaving the monastery, he agreed to a deal with the Sahamongkol production firm. And he produced “Tom Yum Goong 2” for them, Tony’s first time acting in a major motion picture with a different foreign martial artist.
