Since the early 1990s, Thad and Barbara Matta have been married. The couple has two daughters, both of whom are now adults. The American college basketball coach is as devoted to his job as he is to his wife.

Barbara is aware of his passion and has witnessed his ups and downs over the years. The pair have been happily married for 27 years, which is not surprising. Thad Michael Matta, a native of Illinois, is currently the head coach of his alma mater, Butler University (2022-present). He was brought in to fill in for LaVall Jordan.

After serving in the 2000-01 season, he returns to the collegiate basketball program. He was also the head coach of the Xavier Musketeers from 2001 to 2004 and the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2004 to 2017. Throughout his career, he has mentored future NBA players such as Greg Oden, Mike Conley, and Evan Turner.

Matta has been a coach for nearly three decades, going from assistant to head coach. Thad played college football at Southern Illinois and Butler before retiring due to back problems. As a result, he converted his passion for coaching into a vocation.

Who Is Thad Matta’s Wife, Barbara Matta? Wikipedia & Age

The former Ohio State coach’s wife, Baraba Matta, is a housewife from Woodbury, New Jersey. Barbara will be 54 years old in 2024, having been born in October 1970. She is four years younger than Thad, who was born on July 11, 1967, and is now 56 years old. Unlike her well-known coach husband, she does not have access to Wikipedia.

She has a Facebook page (@arbara.matta.31), but she hasn’t posted in a long time. Barbara and her husband, Thad, both attended Butler University. Matta, on the other hand, met her after he graduated from college. Both of their fathers were sports directors, according to a March 2010 New York Times article.

In a remarkable coincidence, their first meeting occurred at Hinkle Field House in 1993. They went on their first date to the Bulldog, a local tavern where they ate pizza and breadsticks. She told him she wouldn’t be moving in with him until they got married. So, after three years of dating, the pair married in August 1996 in North Carolina’s Cullowhee United Methodist Church.

They exchanged vows after 11 days of engagement. Thad had just started as an assistant coach at Western Carolina in 1995, working under head coach Frankie King. Barbara, on the other hand, was a sixth-grade teacher. She supposedly made $20,000 per month, while her hubby allegedly made $30,000. Mrs. Matta calls the experience “hog heaven.”

What Does Thad’s Wife Do?

Barbara Matta quit her teaching position to travel with her lover as a coach’s wife. She is a charity worker and social activist in addition to being her spouse’s support system. She is a member of the board of A Kid Again, a non-profit that assists children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. She also volunteers for organizations like Reach Out and Read, Ronald McDonald House, Buckeye Ranch, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Girl Scouts.

Barbara and Thad Matta Have Two Daughters

The Butler Bulldogs’ coach, Thad Matt, and his wife, Barbara, have two adult children, Ali and Emily Matta. Both of their daughters attended Butler University. Ali Matta, the oldest daughter, was born in 1999 and works at Complete Sports Management as a marketing and operations manager.

She was in charge of the Bahamas Bowl and the inaugural Crossover Classic event. Before joining CS Management, she lived in Barcelona, Spain. Emily, Thad, and Barbara’s youngest child was born in 2001 and will graduate in 2023 with a degree in Strategic Communication (PR and Advertising).

According to her LinkedIn profile, she works as a creative assistant at Brown Capital Group (August 2023-present). She formerly worked part-time at Hotel Broad Ripple as a social media and hotel receptionist.
