On Thursday, Charlie Puth revealed on TikTok that his new single, “That’s Hilarious,” would be released in April.

In a brief video posted to social media, the One Call Away singer explained that the song is about a breakup he experienced in 2019. One of the most devastating breakups of his life, according to him, was the one that occurred.

Puth’s declaration that 2019 was the “worst year of his life” caused the video to go viral. The 30-year-old told his fans that he was happy for them to hear the song even though the year had been a difficult time in his life.

I’m releasing That’s Hilarious as the next single as a result. Although I’m eagerly anticipating the song’s release, every time I hear it, I’m taken back to a particularly tough time in my life. It comes back to me every time I hear it. However, I’m eager to hear from you as well.

Who has Charlie Puth previously been romantically engaged with?

Charlie Puth dated two women in public between 2018 and 2019. The identity of the additional ladies the Grammy-nominated performer may have dated behind the scenes is unknown, even though their names are well-known.

In September 2018, Puth published a collection of images featuring the actress Halston Sage. Since then, they have been eliminated. Although they were frequently seen together, Puth and the Last Summer star never publicly acknowledged their relationship. A few weeks later, their brief relationship is believed to have come to an end.

In February 2019, Puth and singer Charlotte Lawrence were shown together at Coach’s New York Fashion Week. On Valentine’s Day, they publicly declared their love for one another after dating rumors about the two celebrities started to surface. Similar to his previous relationship, the two split up soon after.

In September of the same year, Puth declared that he was no longer in a committed relationship. In February 2020, Lawrence also announced that the couple had broken up to Vanity Fair. Before 2018, Puth was associated with a number of female celebrities, including singer Bella Thorne and actress Danielle Campbell.

In 2018, the performer acknowledged dating Selena Gomez in 2016. They made headlines that year when they released the song We Don’t Talk Anymore, which led to allegations that they were dating.

In an interview with Billboard published in 2018, Puth discussed the song and his collaboration with Gomez and said, “I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can appear genuine is if something else is going on behind the scenes.” That is precisely what was happening. Very fleeting, incredibly inconsequential, but very strong. And that messed me up. She also inspired such a nice vibe in that song.

Working with Gomez was also “a thrill,” according to Puth. He claimed he loved singing the song even though it was written during “a horrible era” in his life.
