Wil Wheaton previously claimed that his mother ‘forced’ him to act and that his father only spoke to him when he was ‘bullied’ Here is information on Wil’s tragic past.

Wil Wheaton was a prominent child actor during the 1980s and 1990s. He appeared in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Flubber,” among other films.

Wil previously disclosed that his ’emotionally abusive’ parents encouraged him to pursue a career in acting.

Wil Wheaton is recognized as the prolific child actor who portrayed Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–19940), Joey Trotta in Toy Soldiers (1991), and Bennett Hoenicker in Flubber (1997).

His breakout appearance in the 1986 classic coming-of-age film Stand By Me is highly recognized. However, he has acknowledged over the years that he never enjoyed acting and that his mother, an actress, “pushed” him into the field.

In addition to forcing him to become a child actor, his parents allegedly subjected him to mental abuse when his career took off. Learn about Wil Wheaton’s parents and what he’s stated about their abuse by reading on.

Which Parents Does Wil Wheaton Have?

Wil Wheaton was born in Burbank, California on July 29, 1972 parents Debra and Richard Wheaton. According to Indie Wire, Debra was an actress and Richard worked in the medical industry.

In addition, they had a son, Jeremy, and a sister, Amy. They have never discussed the alleged abuse Wil has accused them of in public, and they are currently estranged.

Wil Wheaton Was A Victim Of “Outrageous Emotional Abuse”

Reflecting on the 35th anniversary of Stand By Me’s a premiere in May 2021, the voice actor for The Secret of NIMH told Yahoo! Movies, “I didn’t want to be an actor when I was a child.” “My parents compelled me to do it, specifically my mother.

My mother instructed me to enter her agency and tell the children’s agent, ‘I want to do what mommy does,’ as part of her coaching. And by a combination of my father’s extreme emotional abuse and my mother’s extensive manipulation of me, I was put in that position.”

Wil Wheaton stated that his sibling was the “Golden Child”

Wil told Yahoo! Movies that he could identify with Gordy in Standy By Me since his brother in real life was always the center of attention.

In the film, Gordy’s parents were exclusively focused on grieving the death of their older son, represented by John Cusack. Because Gordie’s experience paralleled mine so closely.

“We are both invisible at home,” he concluded. “Everyone of us has a brother who is the prodigy. Both of us are the scapegoat in the family.

Now, when I watch “Stand by Me,” I am unable to conceal the profound anguish in my eyes. And I cannot deny the fact that it was my sadness and loneliness that enabled me to bring Gordie to life, something I believe Rob Reiner recognized.”

His mother controlled his life

In July 2019, Will posted a magazine spread of himself providing entertaining tidbits with his followers on Instagram (seen here).

Wil stated in his comment that despite his appearance in the magazine as a typical, cheerful adolescent, he was anything but. “#Fbf to roughly 1986 or 1987,” he commenced.

This strange child was so self-conscious about doing these things, didn’t want to do them, felt uneasy and humiliated by the attention, yet did them anyhow because no adult ever listened to him.

The former contestant on Celebrity Jeopardy also took the time to respond to some fans in the comment section and provide further context for his situation.

“My mother ran my entire life, and when my father wasn’t bullying me, he didn’t even know I existed,” he wrote in response to a follower, as reported by Page Six.

In a subsequent remark, he stated,

“I recall being asked the questions and doing my best to provide the answers my parents desired.” Back then, I was still hoping that I could win my father’s favor.
