Mark Herndon used to be the drummer for the band Alabama, but he was kicked out a few years ago. Find out why here.

What Happened to the Alabama Drummer?

Mark Herndon was the drummer for Alabama for 25 years. His book, “The High Road: Memories From a Long Trip,” shows that he and his friends had fights and disliked each other. Mark Herndon was the drummer for the famous country band Alabama for 25 years. During that time, he went through a lot.

Even though he was praised as one of the four band members and played a big part in the band’s success, he had trouble getting along with Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, and Jeff Cook, the three chorus singers. Even though the band’s brass plaque at the Country Music Hall of Fame showed a big picture of Herndon, things were getting tense behind the scenes.

In his book, “The High Road: Memories From a Long Trip,” Herndon makes subtle references to the problems he had with Alabama, but he doesn’t say the name of the band or the last names of his former teammates. This shows how bad the problems were. Throughout the book, Herndon talks about the different things that bothered him about the relationship.

In 1984, he was moved from the band bus to the crew bus because he complained about how hot the bus was. This was a turning point in his relationship with the other band members.

Even though he was an important part of the band’s image and marketing plan, Herndon says he was paid much less than he expected. During the band’s most successful years in the early 1980s, he sometimes made as little as $45,000.

Even though he was able to achieve higher pay later in the decade and made more than $100,000 by the end of the 1990s, he had given up his merchandise rights until the band’s final tour in 2003 and 2004.

Alabama sued Herndon in 2008, saying that he had been paid too much for goods during the final tour. This made the situation even worse. The case led to a court fight that made him and his former bandmates even more angry with each other.

Randy Owen said in public in 2013 that Mark Herndon was never really considered a member of the band. This was a very hurtful thing to say, and it made their relationship even worse. Even though there were problems, Herndon says he made decisions on his own and was pulled to the charm of being on stage.

He says that playing on stage was like a drug that kept him in the band despite the problems he had to deal with. Even though he admits that his lawyers gave him bad advice, he ended up agreeing to the terms under which he worked. Even though studio players did most of the work on Alabama’s records, Herndon did play drums on some of them.

Bitterness between the band members offstage, on the other hand, slowly weakened their once strong bond, which led to fewer magical times onstage. The case was a turning point that made it impossible to get back together with the band. Even though Herndon was kicked out of the group, he stayed in the music business and managed a solo singer named Leah Seawright.

Writing his book was therapeutic for Mark Herndon. It gave him a chance to tell his side of the story and make peace with his troubled past. Even though he and his former friends still didn’t like each other, he said he doesn’t care about it anymore and sees it as a big part of his life.
