Where Is Ariane De Lobkowicz Now That She Has Left Défi for the MR?

Ariane De Lobkowicz, a prominent figure in Belgian politics, made a significant change when she quit the Défi party and joined the MR (Reformist Movement) in the Brussels Parliament.

This transition marked a turning point in her political career and raised concerns about her whereabouts and current activities.

The 2019 election of 23-year-old Ariane De Lobkowicz as the youngest Member of Parliament (MP) in Belgium garnered attention.

Her decision to abandon Défi and join the MR was predominantly motivated by a fundamental policy disagreement, specifically regarding ritual slaughter.

The breaking point between Ariane De Lobkowicz and Défi was her involvement in a proposed ordinance aimed at prohibiting slaughter without stunning, a practice often associated with religious rituals.

This issue became a source of discord within the party, resulting in divisions. The proposal was narrowly rejected despite her efforts and advocacy for animal welfare, including four ballots against Défi members who had initially supported the initiative.

Ariane Lobkowicz was dismayed by the decision, believing that it was influenced by electoral considerations rather than a genuine concern for animal welfare.

This discord made Défi feel uneasy, prompting her to contemplate abandoning the party for more than a year.

According to her, the MR was a more appropriate venue for her political ideals. She identified as a social liberal and felt that the MR more closely aligned with her values, specifically their stance on neutrality.

In addition, she cited her displeasure with voting instructions within Défi, emphasizing the significance of the freedom to vote based on personal convictions within the legislature.

Her decision to join the MR was not motivated by animosity toward her former party; she acknowledged that Défi had given her an opportunity and expressed regret that this situation had arisen.
