Off-screen, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ has brought numerous couples together. One of the couples was Phoebe Tonkin, who played Hayley Marshall in the series, and Paul Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore.

The couple had an on-again, off-again relationship for four years. However, the brief appearance of the two on-screen together in ‘The Originals’ was enough for fans to adore their chemistry.

But their chemistry off-screen was far more. However, it came to an end. So, what was the reason behind the cute couple’s breakup?

Relationship History of Phoebe Tonkin and Paul Wesley

Phoebe and Paul began dating in 2013 after meeting on the set of ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ Unfortunately, Paul, Torrey DeVitto’s ex-husband, had just gotten out of a divorce with Torrey at the time.

Torrey also appeared as a guest star in ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ Paul and DeVitto were married for two years before divorcing in 2013. Paul Wesley and Phoebe’s romance blossomed shortly after his divorce.

Everyone could see how much they loved each other. On Instagram, the couple shared photos of themselves as they lavished affection on one other.

The pair then decided to take their love to the next level by moving in together. Unfortunately, Phoebe and Paul separated and lived separately for a month.

After a month of separation, the couple reconciled and remarried. In an interview, Phoebe said of Paul Wesley,

He’s my best pal.
It’s an exciting period in my life right now.
It’s good to have someone with whom to discuss all of this.

They kept the majority of their relationship covert for many years. However, Paul and Phoebe were once again discreet about the reasons for their split and reconciliation.

Their second chance at love did not last long. They quickly split up and destroyed any evidence of their ever being together. Of course, the fandom was devastated by the breakup because they adored Phoebe and Paul together.

Nonetheless, the couple couldn’t work it out and ended their relationship. However, because the former couple has not spoken publicly about their split, your questions about why Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonkin split may go unanswered.

According to some sources, Phoebe relocated to Australia for her role in ‘Safe Harbor.’ They also believe that it may be the reason for the couple’s breakup, or that Phoebe is simply yearning home after a heartbreak; you never know.

However, both Phoebe and Paul Wesley have gone on with other partners in their lives. Furthermore, Paul married Ines de Ramon. Phoebe, on the other hand, is in a new relationship, having moved on from her previous romantic life.

And fans have been wondering about the fortunate man who was able to restore our beloved Phoebe’s, broken heart.

The New Relationship of Phoebe Tonkin

In June 2020, Phoebe revealed on Instagram that she was dating singer Alexander Greenwald. Many of her co-stars congratulated her on her new beginning in comments on her post.

The fans were likewise pleased and supportive. However, some people confused Alexander with Daniel Gillies, who played Elijah, Phoebe’s love interest in ‘The Originals.’

Nonetheless, Phoebe tagged her lover Alexander, letting followers know who her beau is. Phoebe is moving on with her life and is in love again, while also advancing in her career as an actor and director.
