The wife of the late Niki Lauda, a Formula 1 racer and entrepreneur in the aviation industry, Birgit Wetzinger runs an art gallery in Austria. The relationship between Wetzinger and Lauda lasted from the late 2000s until Niki’s passing in 2019.

Lauda, Birgit’s now-deceased partner, won the F1 Grand Prix three times—in 1975, 1977, and 1984.

People frequently appreciate Birgit for sticking by Niki during good times and bad, from when the deceased Grand Prix racer was one of the hottest names to his recovery from the near-fatal accident in 1976.

Get a detailed look into Wetzinger’s life before she essentially joined Niki Lauda’s life, their relationship, their final moments as husband and wife, Wetzinger’s life following Lauda’s passing, and more.

What portion of her husband’s wealth did Birgit inherit, and what is her current net worth?

One of the beneficiaries of the late Niki Lauda’s wealth and inheritance was Wetzinger. To begin with, Birgit reportedly still has access to Lauda’s approximately $6 million Ibiza house.

Although the details of Lauda’s will have not yet been made public, some insiders assert that Wetzinger is also among the inheritors of Lauda’s substantial wealth, which includes his real estate, assets, and even a yacht.

Since Birgit also runs an art gallery in Vienna, she is likely to be wealthy. Metzinger’s gain from her late husband’s fortune may not be known to the public for some time, but her net worth is likely in the vicinity of seven or perhaps eight figures.

What is known about Birgit Wetzinger’s early life on the internet?

Wetzinger, who was purportedly born in March 1979, hails from Vienna. The remaining aspects of her early life, however, have mostly been unnoticed events.

Metzinger’s earlier wikis, in contrast to her anecdotes about her late husband and the thereafter, are seldom ever brought up in conversation.

Since then, it has been established that Birgit, who is 42 years old, worked as a flight attendant when she first met her future husband in the middle of the 2000s. She was employed by Lauda Air, Niki’s airline at the time.

Birgit Wetzinger and Niki Lauda were 30 years apart in age

In 2004, Witzenger had just turned 29 and the racer from Zurich had already reached the age of 59. Rush Niki did not encounter Birgit while she was hitchhiking, in contrast to the 2013 movie.

Instead, they met at a party where, according to Nikki, he later fell in love with her. Lauda did, however, offer to drive her somewhere soon after their initial encounter.

They met at a gathering. Niki was unknown to Birgit. She believed he played tennis. At that time, Birgit was employed by Lauda’s airline as a flight attendant.

Soon after his second racing retirement, Lauda started his airline in 1985. However, the airline ceased operations in April 2013.

In an interview, the 1975 F1 World Drivers’ Champion admitted he immediately liked Birgit because of her boots. He claimed that it was the initial factor that piqued his interest in her.

Nikki claimed that he was unaware that Wetzinger was employed by his business.

Their Marriage

Two months before to the wedding, Niki asked Wetzinger to marry her in a pizzeria in Ibiza. On August 25, 2008, at 2:30 pm, they exchanged vows in front of their loved ones and friends at the Vienna Wahring registrar’s office.

On his big day, the businessman and four-wheeler veteran did don a red cap and pants. Haig Asenbauer, Niki’s longtime attorney and friend, as well as a few family members and acquaintances, are among the witnesses.

The couple took a flight to the Balearic island of Ibiza for a week after the wedding. The former couple still resides there. It is said that their wedding lasted about seven minutes.

Wetzinger and her late husband Lauda had two children together

Niki and Birgit welcomed Mia and Max into their family when they were together.

Their twins were born in September 2009. Niki was the father of twins Birgit, Mathias, and Lukas from his first marriage, as well as Christoph, his son from his third marriage.

With his first wife, Marlene Knaus, Lauda gave birth to Mathias and Lukas. After 25 years of marriage, Marlene and Niki got divorced in 1991. On the other hand, the racer with 177 entries gave birth to his son, Christoph, during an affair he had while still Marlene’s husband. It appears that Birgit is also close with Marlene, Niki’s ex-wife.

Wetzinger gave Niki Lauda her kidney

Less than a year after they began dating, Lauda, Birgit’s ex-boyfriend, developed renal failure and required dialysis. Lauda urged his ex-wife Marlene’s son Lucas to test his kidney, but the results were inconclusive.

Later, Birgit requested that her tissue be tested to determine if she might be a donor.

Lauda refused, but after nearly three months of pressure, Wetzinger finally agreed to donate her kidney to the former champion of the BMW M1 Procar Championship. Following the operation’s success, they got married three years later.

Niki’s renal condition was a result of the extensive head and lung burns he sustained in the collision at the Nurburgring during the 1976 German Grand Prix. He subsequently had two kidney transplants as a result. In addition, he underwent lung transplant surgery in the summer of 2018.

Death of Birgit Wetzinger’s spouse

Niki Lauda, Birgit’s racing-partner husband, passed away on May 20, 2019, at the age of 70.

At Zurich University Hospital, he passed away. Lauda, Birgit’s partner, had been receiving dialysis for kidney issues before he passed away. He had been hospitalized after becoming ill for a while.

Birgit Wetzinger On the Death of Her Husband, Niki Lauda

For about a year after her husband’s passing, Birgit remained silent.

Then, during an interview with the Australian radio station O3, Wetzinger stated she was unable to express how much Niki was missed by both her and her children. While the loss of Niki, the 1972 British Formula Two champion, will always be painful, she said, her family wasn’t giving up.

She claimed that she was making a cautious effort to emerge from the depressive cloud with her children.

She added that to deal with the loss of the 1984 F1 Champion, she and her family were seeking psychiatric support.

Wetzinger Now Partners With

Wetzinger is presently seeing a lawyer and financial specialist Marcus Sieberer. They reportedly started dating from the beginning to the middle of 2021.

Additionally, Sieberer has two kids from a prior relationship. Birgit and Sieberer, her current partner, allegedly met in Ibiza through common connections. Wetzinger stated she and her new lover also have the blessing of her late spouse when she revealed her relationship with Marcus to the radio station O3 in late 2021.

What is Birgit Wetzinger now doing?

Birgit, the late McLaren/Ferrari racer who was married to Niki, is said to now run an art gallery in Vienna. Currently, Birgit is the creator of the nonprofit Birgit Lauda Art Foundation.

Her business, which she opened in 2017, is a Vienna-based, international gallery specializing mostly in modern art. She also won the 2018 4future Awards.

Wetzinger claims that she wishes to promote both young and established international artists through her organization. In addition, she intends to build an art space and offer a platform.

Birgit identifies as a fervent admirer of art. In Vienna, she also studied art history. Otto Zitko and Scheibl are favorites of the late F1 driver’s widow as well. Wetzinger claimed in August 2018 that her long-standing passion for architecture was what first drew her to the arts in an interview with Vienna Contemporary.

Niki, her late husband, used to evaluate many architectural projects while they were living in Ibiza.

She uses Instagram and other platforms to market her art gallery

Although Birgit hasn’t been seen using her name on social media sites like Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, it is assumed that she has been in charge of the Instagram account for her art foundation since the middle of 2021.

Wetzinger occasionally makes posts on Instagram, although most of them are images of her art gallery and current events related to it. However, Birgit hasn’t revealed what her daily routines are in these places outside of work.
