Ice-T was first reared in Newark by his parents, Alice and Solomon, who were both housewives. Solomon worked as a conveyor belt technician. The family moved to Summit, New Jersey when Ice-T was four years old.

At the age of seven, he saw prejudice for the first time, and he attributes his mother with teaching him how to avoid letting other people’s negative affect him. When Ice-T was nine years old, his mother passed away from a heart attack, leaving Solomon to raise Ice-T by himself.

Two years later, Ice-T had his bicycle stolen. In retaliation, he took another person’s bicycle parts and put three bicycles together. Before moving to reside in Los Angeles at the age of 14, Ice-T lived with his aunt and her husband when his father passed away from a heart attack in 1970.

Before transferring to Crenshaw High School, Ice-T attended Palms Junior High. He stood out from his peers since he did not take drugs, smoke, or drink alcohol.

He started reading novels while he was there, and Iceberg Slim, an author he read, is where he earned the nickname Ice-T.

When he joined The Precious Few of Crenshaw High School, he began his career as a vocalist. To make money, Ice-T sold marijuana and stole stereos from vehicles, but it wasn’t enough to sustain him and his girlfriend, who was carrying their daughter Letesha at the time.

His passion for rap was born during his two years in the Army, which he entered in 1977. He was released from the Army in 1979 because he was a single father.

His rapping career began in 1983 when he released his first single, “Cold Wind Madness,” which was a huge hit. The same year, he also released “Body Rock,” another hit single.

In 1991, he and his band Body Count put out their self-titled album, “O.G. Original Gangster,” which is credited with laying the groundwork for gangsta rap. In October 2006, he launched his album “Gangsta Rap,” and it took him another 11 years to release his following album, “Bloodlust,” in 2017.
