At the discussion with the district attorney’s office, Susan Necheles, the legal counsel for the Trump campaign, also asserted that since campaign money was not used for the payments to Stormy Daniels, campaign finance regulations were not broken.

The Trump camp has provided the district attorney’s office with their strongest legal argument so that they may choose how to defend the former president if he is charged with a misdemeanor or crime over the payments.

Trump may struggle with such justifications given that he may be accused of having “mixed motives” to defend both his Campaign and himself.
