He made a high-profile suggestion to his superiors while still employed at Apple: he could improve Apple’s Wi-Fi by transmitting signals across a distance of 12 miles.
Every Wi-Fi device created, he promised, would have more power. His suggestion was rejected by his superiors, though. He ultimately decided to design his affordable Wi-Fi modules as a result.

On October 25, 2012, when he bought the Memphis Grizzlies, he entered the NBA, bringing with him a sizable fortune from his Wi-Fi manufacturing company. He has up until now been a vocal advocate for the Grizzlies Foundation’s sports-related humanitarian endeavors.
