It is said that Rex Burkhead is worth $8 million. With a $9.7 million contract, the Houston Texans running back signed his biggest deal with the Patriots in 2018.

Before being selected by the Bengals in the 2013 NFL Draft, Burkhead played four years of collegiate football for the Cornhuskers. Rex signed a one-year contract to play with the Patriots after spending four seasons with the Bengals.

Burkhead was known by former coaches as “Mr. Consistent,” and even though he spent the majority of his career as a reserve, he made a big impact on the team he played for. In 2019, Burkhead and colleague Tom Brady, who scored three touchdowns during the playoffs, won the Super Bowl.

Burkhead posted on Instagram on Monday to declare his retirement. Throughout four seasons, Burkhead participated in 41 Patriots regular-season games, accumulating 390 touches for 2,128 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Rex Burkhead’s Net Worth Before Retirement

The former running back for the Houston Texans, Rex Burkhead, is worth $8 million. Throughout his ten seasons as an NFL player, Burkhead has accumulated the largest amount of money. Burkhead grew up in the Texas metro area of Dallas-Fort Worth. Rex is from a family that is passionate about football; his father, Richard, was once an NFL tryout.

Richard’s son Rex’s NFL career allowed him to see his dreams come true. The athlete did not come from a wealthy family; instead, his wealth was earned via his skill on the field. The sixth-round pick Burkhead did not enjoy a spectacular rookie campaign. With the Bengals, he signed a four-year, $2.2 million contract with $102,200 in signing bonus money and an average salary of $565,000.

Burkhead spent four years on the team, however he was primarily a reserve player. In 2017, Burkhead—who had appeared in 42 NFL games and made one start—left the Bengals. In addition to catching 34 catches for 288 yards and one touchdown, he ran 87 times for 375 yards and three scores.

Burkhead earned his first Super Bowl debut after signing a $3.1 million contract as an unrestricted free agent with the New England Patriots. He decided to stay with the Patriots after the team’s loss, and the following season, the team not only qualified for the Super Bowl but also won it. Burkhead has agreed to a $9.75 million, three-year extension with the Patriots.

Rex’s salary was cut from $2.5 million to $1.05 million during his final season due to a contract modification. The running back and the Texans agreed to a $1.5 million, one-year contract in 2021. He received a contract extension until the 2022 season, but no further information was given.

Rex Burkhead’s Fight with Cancer

Former NFL player Rex Burkhead has a long history of involvement with the Team Jack Foundation. The Team Jack Foundation works to increase awareness and money for brain cancer in children. Rex and Andy Hoffman, the creator of the non-profit, first connected while Rex was a player for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Jack Hoffman, Andy’s five-year-old son, was diagnosed with epilepsy and juvenile brain cancer.

Following the diagnosis of his kid in 2013, Andy founded the nonprofit. In 2020, Andy received a brain cancer diagnosis; he passed away the following year. The organization has raised almost $10 million since its founding, and Burkhead has participated actively in board meetings. Rex provided sponsorship for a charity event at Top Golf in Katy in 2022.

Rex returned to represent the foundation in the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats initiative that same year; he has been in this capacity since 2016. His cleats honored the foundation’s tenth anniversary in 2022. Rex has raised awareness for the Team Jack Foundation on Instagram by sharing several posts about the organization
