Patricia Noah is a media personality from South Africa. She is well-known as Trevor Noah’s mother. Her son is a political analyst, comedian, TV host, and actor.

Trevor is the host of The Daily Show, a Comedy Central satirical news show. He previously presented the M-Nt and DStv chat show Tonight with Trevor Noah.

Patricia Noah, Trevor Noah’s mother, drew even more media attention after her 38-year-old son published his autobiographical comedy book Born a Crime in 2016. Trevor’s upbringing in South Africa during a time when having mixed-race children was deemed a crime is the subject of the book.

Here are some unknown facts about Patricia, such as her difficult childhood, education, and work. Also, how was Trevor born during the apartheid era?

Patricia Noah: Who Is She? Information About Her Parents and Childhood

Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah is a South African media figure and the mother of Trevor Noah, a well-known comedian. Temperance and Nomalizo Frances Noah gave birth to her in South Africa.

She is of South African origin and of Xhosa or Nguni ethnic ancestry. Noah, according to stories, was a middle kid who was transferred to live with her father. Her father, on the other hand, later sent her to live with his sister (her aunt) in Transkei.

While Trevor was in Transkei, she shared a hut with 14 other cousins from various parents, including her aunt’s children.

Patricia Noah grew up in extreme poverty.

Noah grew up in South African slums, let alone with 14 other children her age. Residents were obliged to dwell in a very tiny place since the government gave very little land to the public.

Sustaining one’s life was an intense sport in the absence of electricity, water, adequate food, and infertile land. People survived on low-level farming because money was scarce.

Noah, on the other hand, had to work. She agreed to assist with fieldwork. Even then, there was insufficient food for all of the youngsters. She had to compete with others for a handful of food.

Patricia would grab animal meals, scraps, or anything she could get her hands on to fill her stomach when they ran out of food.

Patricia Noah went at the Missionary School.

Patricia decided as she grew older that she wanted to learn to read and write, so she enrolled in the still-operational missionary school. After learning to read and write, she obtained a work at a local factory, where she was compensated with a meal every day.

Not to mention, Noah had lived for around 12 years with her aunt and other relatives. She returned to Soweto after her aunt became ill, but her visit was brief as she soon relocated to Johannesburg. She relocated to Johannesburg in order to break free from the cycle of poverty and avoid the “Black Tax.”

Noah was fortunate to get a typing job during a time when there were few opportunities for black people. These kind of employment were typically designated for whites, as well as any other skilled or executive roles.

Patricia Noah, 22, apparently secured a job as a secretary for a prominent pharmaceutical company in Johannesburg’s white region.
Patricia Noah, how did she manage to live in Johannesburg during the Apartheid era?

Although the future comedian’s mother had a respectable career in the neighborhood, black people were still considered a threat to the community. As a result, Noah began looking for alternative methods to spend the night.

Noah initially spent the night in public restrooms and other locations. Later, she met some Xhosa prostitutes who taught her how to live in the city in style. They trained her how to disguise herself as a maid and work as quietly as possible.

Despite her skills and disguise, she was frequently apprehended and arrested by the guards. However, once she had enough money, she would pay the fine and continue doing the same thing.

In Hillbrow, Patricia Noah met Trevor Noah’s father.

Noah met a man of Swiss-German heritage named Robert Lloyd while residing in Hillbrow. Robert was twice Noah’s age and regarded her as a passing acquaintance. Patricia, on the other hand, requested Robert to have a baby with her despite the fact that they were not romantically involved.

She also told him that he didn’t have to pay child support or be involved in the child’s life if he didn’t want to. Robert initially denied the idea, stating that he did not want a kid, but subsequently agreed with Noah.

At the time, having an interracial baby was a crime punishable by a 5-year prison sentence for both blacks and whites. Regardless, Trevor Noah was born on February 20, 1984.

Patricia and Robert never spent time or lived together as a couple, despite having a child together. She moved to Joubert Park shortly after Trevor was born.

Furthermore, Robert would go out of his way to see his son every now and then. He afterwards relocated to Cape Town and lost contact with Trevor for several years.

How Did Patricia Escape Jail Despite Having A Colored Child?

As previously said, having colored infants was an unlawful crime at the time. As a result, in order to safeguard Trevor’s identity, Patricia informed the physicians that Trevor’s father was from another nation.

The physicians trusted her account and typed in ‘another country’ for the father’s nationality on her son’s birth certificate. Similarly, the father’s employment was left unfilled.

Patricia then tried to conceal her son’s identify as much as she could by enveloping him in a swaddle. She worked as a maid for Trevor’s putative parents as he grew older.

Trevor’s putative parent was a white lady who lived in the same building as Patricia and happily volunteered to assist her. When she was out with her son and the lady, she would address her as Queen and pretend to be her maid in front of the cops.

To avoid jail time, she literally raised Trevor in captivity and isolation from the outside world.

Patricia Noah’s First Marriage to Abel Ngisaveni: They Had Two Children Together

Noah met her husband Abel Ngisaveni in 1992 when her Volkswagen car needed maintenance several times. She and Abel eventually fell in love and decided to take their relationship to the next level.

After signing the marriage documents, Abel and Patricia became husband and wife. Trevor was only 8 years old at the time of their wedding. He also disliked Abel and had a horrible feeling about him.

Andrew, Trevor’s half-brother, was born a year later, in 1993. While everything was going well, Patricia Noah’s then-husband Ngisaveni began drinking alcohol and became abusive against his family, particularly Patricia.

Noah moved out to live with her mother after a period of anguish. Abel begged for forgiveness and requested Patricia to move in with him during this period. Unfortunately, things began to fall apart once more when their family firm, Mighty Mechanics, failed and Noah left for good.

During this time, the former couple was attempting to heal their relationship by welcoming their second kid, Isaac. Unfortunately, Abel was unable to stop his unhealthy habits, and Patricia finally divorced him in 1996.

Patricia Noah’s ex-husband, Abel Nigsaveni, shot her in the face as a form of retaliation.

Noah discovered love for the second time after divorcing her abusive spouse Abel. She was married to her second husband, Sfiso Khoza, and had a happy existence until 2009.

Unfortunately, Abel later shot Patricia in the face in the hopes of murdering her at their Johannesburg home. According to Patricia, Abel pursued her and shot her in the face and back, fracturing her jaw and penetrating her skull, nose, and ear.

Abel even fired a couple shots at her second husband, Khoza. Following this, Nigsaveni was arrested and pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

When Patricia called Abel during the trial, he vowed to seek down and kill Trevor, who was then 25 years old. Trevor, thankfully, had fled to Los Angeles. The Jeppe Magistrates Court condemned Nigsaveni to three years of correctional supervision.

The mother of three stated in an interview with the Daily Mail,

“I consider myself fortunate to be alive. When God writes, he must write for people and convey the idea that God is greater than death.”

She also said that she was treated in someone person’s name because she was afraid her ex-husband would come to ‘complete the job’ at the hospital.
Patricia Noah, how did she influence her son’s success in the comedy world?

Patricia faced numerous challenges as she grew up, and one of the lessons she learnt was to use comedy to cope with the suffering. Patricia joked to Trevor during her treatment for attempted murder, stating,

“On the plus side, you’re now officially the best-looking person in the family.”

She passed on her sense of humour and forgiving to her son, who is today one of the world’s most famous comedians.

What is Patricia Noah doing these days?

Noah and her family currently reside in Johannesburg, South Africa. Similarly, she owns and operates a real estate firm in the same neighborhood.

Patricia expresses her dissatisfaction with her son’s achievement, stating that she does not wish to gain from his success. She stated,

“He is running his business, and I am running mine; I have my own money and business.”

Trevor published his autobiographical book, Born A Crime, in 2016, in which he discusses his and his family’s lives. Paramount Players is producing a film adaption starring Lupita Nyong’o as Patricia Noah.
