Shohei Ohtani is the talk of the town after signing a massive contract. His agent, Nez Balelo, 60, was key in negotiating the record-breaking contract.

Ohtani has attracted baseball fans’ interest as a free-agent batter with multiple teams to select from. Finally, on Saturday afternoon, Ohtani and his agent Balelo finalized a ten-year contract worth $700 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Shohei Ohtani, a Japanese baseball pitcher and designated hitter, was born on July 5, 1994. He formerly played for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. Before his Major League debut, Ohtani was the top choice for the Japanese team Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Pacific League.

Furthermore, Ohtani is considered one of the best two-way players, having won the Japan Series in 2016. Then, for his performance with the Angels, Ohtani was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2018.

However, he gave the Angels a famous performance in 2021. Ohtani pitched for the Angels, earning over 100 strikeouts and making ten or more appearances. Meanwhile, as a batter for the team, he hit over ten home runs and stole over twenty bases. Ohtani was named the 2021 American League MVP.

Nez Balelo’s Age And Wiki

Nez Balelo exemplifies the adage “Age is just a number”. At sixty, the wealthy agent shows no signs of slowing down. Nez Balelo (born February 22, 1963) is a sports agent and retired baseball player who played shortstop and second base. Balelo was raised in San Diego, California.

He is a first-generation Portuguese-American in his family. His playing career came to an unfortunate end when he got a career-ending injury. The Seattle Mariners’ fourth-round draftee had to retire before reaching the Major Leagues. However, the injury did not deter Balelo, who rapidly established a thriving baseball academy.

Meanwhile, he joined the Atlanta Braves organization and began his formal career as a scout. After a decade of scouting for the Braves, he decided to sell his company and establish a sports agency. Balelo rose to fame in just three years and made a significant impression.

Meanwhile, IMG Sports Group appointed Balelo as a senior executive. In 2006, he joined the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and founded a sports group. Balelo worked with the CAA to secure contracts totaling more than $4 billion. Forbes ranked him as one of the top 50 most powerful sports agents in the world.

Record-breaking Contract

Ohtani and Balelo have successfully broken all previous contract records, outperforming renowned athletes such as Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. However, many fans have questioned if the Dodgers can make it work. Due to the large money to be paid and the length of the contract, both parties must make concessions and fulfill their responsibilities.

However, Ohtani permits the Dodgers to keep their salary options open. Multiple stories imply that postponed payments were a key component of this agreement.

Nez Balelo said in a press release: “He (Ohtani) is excited to begin this partnership, and he structured his contract to reflect a true commitment from both sides to long-term success.” According to insiders, the Dodgers will defer $68 million year until the contract expires. Furthermore, the pact contains no opt-out clauses, demonstrating the Dodgers’ and Ohtani’s commitment.
