Nessa Barrett, a high school student, created a TikTok account with her friends for fun. In just one year, she amassed over 10 million Twitter followers.

The internet celebrity claimed her parents told her she couldn’t succeed in the city’s cutthroat music business. But, at the age of 17, she disobeyed her parents and bought her own house and car.

Barrett’s mother expressed regret for having underestimated her after seeing how hard she worked and how dedicated she was to her music and career. Barrett told Elite in 2020 that her mother had been supportive and extremely proud of her. Her mother, she claimed, never imagined she’d be able to leave the house and live alone.
