Lynn Prudhomme, the wife of the renowned drag racing hero Don Prudhomme, has been an integral part of his life since their first meeting in a Los Angeles-area high school art class.

Lynn has generously shared the spotlight of this recognized figure’s incredible career throughout the years, turning from lover to devoted wife. Don Prudhomme, also known as ‘the Snake,’ is a legend in American drag racing history. His exceptional career earned him major inductions into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (1991) and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (2000).

Don and Lynn Prudhomme’s Long Relationship

Don Prudhomme and his wife, Lynn, have been married for several decades. While Lynn has consistently avoided the attention associated with her husband’s popularity, she has maintained the backbone of their family. Lynn maintained a feeling of normalcy for their daughter, Donna Lynn, despite Don’s 35-year racing career, first as a driver and then as a team owner.

Lynn’s steadfast support well exceeded that of a racing spouse as they journeyed across the country. She accepted the crucial role of an effective team manager, which is frequently taken on by drag racing spouses. Recognizing the sport’s inherent dangers, Lynn witnessed how a single catastrophic collision might quickly destroy a racer’s family.

This understanding prompted her to ponder the need for a framework that might offer both emotional and financial support to injured racers and their families. They and other drag racing wives established the Drag Racing Association of Women (DRAW). DRAW was created to assist Shirley with her medical expenses, but it swiftly evolved into a charitable organization.

Don Prudhomme Honored in Exclusive Exhibition

The San Diego Automotive Museum in Southern California had an outstanding permanent display honoring Don Prudhomme. This landmark jubilee was marked with an exclusive grand opening on July 13, 2023. This beautiful exhibit showcases over 100 of Prudhomme’s well-known NHRA Wally Awards.

His illustrious career included stints as a driver and team owner in the NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car events. Prudhomme’s unusual fire suits and helmets are also on display at the exhibition. The visual appeal is enhanced by a well-designed video package featuring some of Prudhomme’s most famous songs.

Recent interviews with Prudhomme add to the story. Prudhomme, accompanied by his wife Lynn and daughter Donna, expressed his gratitude by saying,

“It’s a great honor to be in this magnificent museum and have my career recognized here. I’m also pleased that the NHRA has been recognized as a terrific place where people can learn more about drag racing.”

The museum, located at 2080 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101, within one of the historic buildings of San Diego’s iconic Balboa Park, is an excellent place for fans to immerse themselves in the history of a racing classic.
