About the Mari Gilbert murder case, people are curious. Only a little part of Mari Gilbert’s story is covered in the real criminal Netflix film.

A new crime film on Netflix called Lost Daughters is based on the true story of Mari Gilbert, a mother whose daughter Shannan Gilbert disappeared on Long Island on May 1, 2010. Mari Gilbert was the victim of a murder.

Authorities discovered the 24-year-old sex worker’s corpse in a marsh close to Oak Beach on December 13, 2011, according to Oxygen.

In addition to Shannan, Mari has three more daughters: Sherre Gilbert, Stevie Gilbert, and Sarra Gilbert.

The true story is considerably more horrifying, but the Long Island Serial Killer is believed to be accountable for a disproportionately high number of unsolved fatalities of female sex workers.

Why Did Sarra Gilbert Kill Her Mother in the Mari Gilbert Murder Case?

Let’s investigate the murder of Mari Gilbert. The Daily Freeman claims that on July 23, 2016, Sarra assaulted her mother with a fire extinguisher and then stabbed her 227 times, killing her.

The Gilbert family’s attorney, John Ray, claims that about Mari’s ordeal, “Sarra asked her mother over to her apartment because she was hearing voices.”

Before killing Mari, Sarra began to behave recklessly. Sarra was arrested in Ulster County in February 2016, according to PIX11, and accused of animal abuse and endangering the welfare of children.

Sarra was arrested again in May 2016 on charges of criminal contempt. The same source told PIX11 that she had violated an “order of protection” that her boyfriend had secured for her.

Sarra apparently struggled with mental health issues before the murder.

Mari Gilbert’s Family Tree

Mari Gilbert was an American activist who supported victims of homicide.

Gilbert battled for her missing 24-year-old daughter Shannan, a native of New Jersey, who disappeared in May 2010.

During the course of Shannan’s kidnapping inquiry, ten murder victims’ bodies were discovered scattered around the Ocean Parkway in New York.

Investigators came to the conclusion that Shannan’s accidental drowning death had nothing to do with the Long Island serial killer’s murders.

Gilbert, however, disapproved of the outcome and pushed for the case to be reopened as a murder inquiry.

According to the findings of an independent autopsy that Gilbert’s family sought, Shannan may have been strangled to death.

Gilbert and her two daughters, Sarra and Sherre, discussed the matter on TV programs on a regular basis.

On July 23, 2016, in Ellenville, New York, Sarra, her 27-year-old daughter, fatally stabbed her mother, Gilbert, inside Sarra’s Warren Street apartment complex.

According to one account, her daughter had schizophrenia and “heard voices in her head urging her to carry out the act.”
