Family and Childhood

On March 11, 1955, in Williamsburg, Dabney and Odie Fortune welcomed a son named Jimmy. He is 66 years old right now.

In Nelson County, Virginia, he spent his childhood alongside eight other siblings. His mother was a devoted Christian who organized a choir performance for all nine of her kids in a church. Jimmy’s love of singing was imprinted in his soul at a young age as a result.

When he was 12 years old, he received his first guitar, at which point he began singing and performing. Jimmy quickly concluded that singing was what he wanted to accomplish with his life. He began performing in Virginia-area bars and gatherings. He also began producing cover songs.

Following an interview for a temporary member of The Statler Brothers in Nashville, Jimmy started his professional career. Lew DeWitt, who was afflicted with Crohn’s illness, was chosen to fill in for him. When DeWitt was unable to return to the stage, Jimmy began playing with the group in 1982 and joined as a permanent member later that year.

Jimmy performed, toured, and sang for The Statler Brothers for 21 years. Except for Jimmy, every member of the group retired in 2002. He began a solo career and carried on with his singing career. Jimmy Fortune went on tours and performed for more than 20 years even though his bandmates were no longer with him. He also published a number of his projects, the majority of which he made himself.

The Williamsburg native released Hits & Hymns in 2015; Ben Isaacs served as producer. It even made it to the top ten on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, proving how popular the album was.

Before meeting Nina, the country singer had already been married twice and divorced. His ex-wives’ identities have not been made public, though.

Jimmy has seven kids in all from all of his partnerships, four of which are from his second wife. His children are Jimmy Fortune Jr., Cortney Fortune, Jessica Fortune, Grant Fortune, Chris Fortune, and Matthew Fortune.
