Actress, singer, and songwriter Sofia Carson had a successful career in both acting and singing-songwriting. Alongside the recent release of Purple Hearts, a Netflix film in which she co-stars with Nicholas Galitzine, the actress is at the top of her game right now.

She has always combined her acting and singing careers, for which she drew inspiration from her idols as a young girl. While she undoubtedly had idols in the form of famous people, she also had her parents, who were members of her close family, as role models.

The Latino celebrity gives a lot of thanks to her parents, who not only raised her with an understanding of both Colombian and American cultures and languages but also always encouraged her in all of her endeavors.

Parents, Ethnicity, and Bicultural Upbringing of Sofia Carson

Sofia Daccarett Char, better known as Carson, was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 10, 1993, to immigrants from Colombia. Both her mother Laura Char Carson and her father Jose F. Daccarett are natives of the Colombian city of Barranquilla.

Through her mother, she has ties to the political Char family of Colombia. However, Sofia Carson’s stage name was inspired by her American maternal grandmother, Lauraine Carson.

Her parents educated her and her sister, Paulina Char, in both American and Latin culture even though they were both born in Florida.

I was raised traveling to Colombia to visit my family every year because my mum is Colombian,” she said in an interview with Mom magazine in July 2015. She described herself as “fortunate” to be able to speak both English and Spanish when questioned about her bilingualism.

In addition to mac & cheese and popcorn, she said, “We were reared on deditos de queso, empanadas, and Arroz with pollo.” Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder were the most frequently played American artists at home, and she was raised on both reggaeton and pop.

She was aware that it was advantageous to be so well-versed in both cultures, but she did not fully appreciate the value of her parents’ teachings until she began to succeed in the field.

When she was offered the character of Evie in The Descendants in 2015, she had that epiphany. Her character was to embark on a voyage to a location that seemed like another world, having a similar experience to her parent’s immigration to the US.

She was better able to relate to and represent Evie because she was aware of the scenario. Additionally, it facilitated her communication with her international admirers, some of whom may not speak English but do comprehend Spanish.

Carson had a passion for acting. In a July 2015 interview with the Miami Herald, she remarked, “I’ve known since I was 3, spinning around the living room in my Belle gown from Beauty and the Beast, that I wanted to be an actress and singer.” “I couldn’t imagine doing anything else,” she said.

She relocated across the country when she was 18 to attend UCLA. As long as she was also taking classes, her parents would allow her to attend as many acting auditions as she wanted.

Now that she is an actor and singer-songwriter, she is also adding the titles of producer and soundtrack writer to her résumé. She also serves as the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation’s first-ever worldwide ambassador.

Influence of Sofia Carson’s mother

The hardest task Carson has ever embarked on was Purple Hearts. If not for the assistance of her mother, she would not have survived.

Carson was originally motivated to use many hyphens by Laura. She introduced her daughter to Cher, Jennifer Lopez, and Barbra Streisand, all of whom were multi-talented artists.

Carson admired those well-known women, but she admired her mother more. As she described Laura in her Netflix interview, “We worked together on my career. I call her my head of management. She is my partner. She is my everything.”

Carson learned from her mother how crucial it is to stand up for oneself. She observed that Laura and Paulina were never reluctant to express their opinions, and Laura in particular never accepted rejection “in the best way.”

Her mother also served as an inspiration for her to pursue her interests in justice and human rights, which ultimately led to her appointment as an ambassador for the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation.

In everything she does, Carson’s mother “leads with love, generosity, and understanding, and I strive to follow in her footsteps.”

She is now accomplishing what she may have once believed was impossible for a Colombian girl from Florida because Laura showed her that nothing is impossible.
