Who Are the Parents of Heidi Berry-Henderson?

On October 6, 1964, Heidi Berry was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the oldest child of an African-American father, Jerome Jesse Berry, and a white English immigrant mother, Judith Ann Hawkins. Halle Berry, her younger sister, is the mother of two children, one of whom is a son named Maceo Robert Martinez.

The mother of Heidi was born to Nellie Dicken and Earl Ellsworth Hawkins in Sawley, Derbyshire, England. She earned her nursing degree from the MB School of Nursing, and she is currently a retired psychiatric nurse.

Her father, Jerome Jesse Berry, was born in 1934 into a family that was 50/50 black and white. In the same psychiatric facility where his wife Judith was also employed, he began working there as a porter. Later, both of the coworkers got married after falling in love.

Why Did Heidi Berry’s Parents Divorce?

Prior to getting married, Heidi’s parents had a close relationship. According to some sources, Judith was expecting Heidi, which is why the pair reportedly got married quickly. Even Judith’s parents disowned her since she wed a black man.

The couple first experienced many ups and downs in their life, but they made an effort to provide their kids with a wonderful life. However, when Jerome began binge drinking, things got complicated.

As a result, Judith and Jerome frequently quarreled with one another. Eventually, the verbal arguments turned physical. When the parents were arguing, Judith, who was only 6 years old at the time, would try to separate them by stepping between them.

For a long time, there was domestic abuse before Jerome abandoned Judith and his two daughters. The couple split up in 1970 without any financial assistance from Jerome. Henderson later gave the family a couple visits, but he was still violent and intoxicated.

Following their divorce, Judith and her two mixed-race daughters relocated to Oakwood Village, a White suburb, and established a new life there. As a mixed-race child, Heidi and her sister endured a lot of bullying from their classmates and neighbors.

Fortunately, Judith gave them excellent parenting, allowing them to make progress in life.
