Grace Coleman will spend at least 21 years behind bars following her involvement in the collision that resulted in the death of Henry Eduardo Saldana Mejia and his wife, Gabriela Andrade, due to drunken driving. When Coleman struck the couple’s Nissan Versa in her Range Rover, her blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

Following the incident, the daughters of Mejia and Andrade sustained broken legs. Elena, Emma Sofia, and Samatha’s letter to their parents was read aloud by a family member during Grace’s sentencing: “I miss my mom and dad. When the accident occurred, I was sad.

Grace, who appeared to be repentant after reading the letter, apologized to the family in person. According to the family’s attorney, Jeffrey T. Roberts, “This was the first time she had been facing to face with the little kids.”

The children’s wrongful death lawsuit named Coleman’s parents as defendants.

James and Kelli Coleman, Grace Coleman’s parents, have avoided the media during their daughter’s trial. However, if a wrongful death lawsuit brought on behalf of the children is successful, they might be required to pay for their daughter’s acts.

According to the lawsuit, Grace and her parents share some of the blame for the catastrophe.

“In this scenario, taking care of the victim’s family comes before punishing the perpetrator. It’s about bringing those responsible who made it possible for her to be in the car at the time accountable.

We have little doubt that Coleman’s parents, who owned the vehicle, were aware of her drinking because she lived with them and had previously experienced having her car seized.

According to Roberts, Grace’s parents were aware of her drinking issue but did nothing to help her.

The 22-year-old woman in question had a drinking problem, and instead of providing her help, Roberts said, “she was handed a Range Rover.”

After a period of heavy drinking, a companion took Grace home the night of the deadly accident. She later stole the Range Rover from the family before crashing it into Mejia’s and his wife’s Versa. Grace attempted to flee the scene of the accident, but she was quickly apprehended by police.

Coleman could have faced nearly 43 years in prison if she had insisted on a trial. Paul Meyer, the defense counsel, claimed Grace has begun to change:

We respect the judge’s discernment in weighing the tragic incident against Grace Coleman’s age, complete acceptance of responsibility, and strong recovery as well as her year of altruistic community service while she was detained.
