Gilbert Gottfried was a popular stand-up comedian in the United States of America. He was well-known for his loud voice, New York accent, and biting wit. He was a fixture on the scene from 1970 until his death in 2022. As an actor, he has a long list of credits, including The House of God, Never on Tuesday, and The Return of Jafar.

Gottfried is also well-known for his voiceover work in cartoons and films. He played Iago in the Disney film Aladdin and has also done voice work for series such as The Fairly OddParents and Family Guy. Aside from his professional career, the late comic once made online headlines when Aflac fired him.

The Gilbert Gottfried Scandal and Controversy

Gilbert Gottfried was involved in a number of issues during his live performances, which drew widespread criticism. During a comedy event at the Friars Club in New York City only days after the September 11 attacks, Gottfried delivered many jokes about the tragedy.

The jokes sparked controversy, and many people demanded that Gottfried apologize. Later, he apologized and contributed to the American Red Cross. Gottfried, on the other hand, was included in the 2005 documentary The Aristocrats, which studied the history of a bawdy joke told by comedians to one another.

Many individuals considered Gottfried’s rendition of the joke insulting and disgusting since it incorporated explicit sexual and scatological undertones. Not only that, but Gottfried backed his friend and fellow comedian Roseanne Barr in 2018 when she was dismissed from her television program for tweeting racist remarks. Gottfried blasted Barr’s firing and said comedians should be free to speak controversial jokes without fear of losing their jobs.

Gottfried Gilbert Aflac Fired Me for Tweeting Jokes in 2011

Gilbert Gottfried was involved in one of the most contentious situations when Alfac sacked him in 2011. Gottfried was sacked as the voice of the Aflac duck in 2011 after making jokes about the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan on his personal Twitter account.

Gottfried had been the voice of the Aflac duck, the mascot of the insurance business Aflac, for nearly a decade, but his remarks sparked outrage from both the public and the firm. Aflac, which conducts a lot of business in Japan, promptly condemned Gottfried’s comments and declared that his contract will be terminated.

Gottfried later apologized for his remarks, claiming that they were intended to be jokes and that he had no intention of harming anybody, but the damage had already been done. Aflac indicated that they will organize a contest to find a new voice for the duck, and that they would use a temporary voiceover for their ads in the meanwhile. That episode served as a sharp reminder of social media’s power and the implications of posting provocative or disrespectful remarks online.
