Who is Moritz Wagner, Franz Wagner’s brother? Learn about Franz Wagner, his gifted brother, their family, and their strong German heritage.

The Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association (NBA) presently have German-born professional basketball player Franz Jacob Wagner on their roster.

Wagner, a Berlin native, competed for the University of Michigan Wolverines in collegiate basketball.

He began his professional career with Alba Berlin in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the highest division in Germany. In 2019, the BBL awarded him its Best German Young Player.

In addition to earning gold at the 2018 Albert Schweitzer Tournament, Wagner has played for Germany’s young national teams.

Moritz Wagner, the brother of Franz Wagner

Victor Moritz “Mo” Wagner, Sister Franz Wagner’s elder brother, plays professional basketball for the NBA’s Orlando Magic.

Moritz, a German basketball player born in 1997, played for Alba Berlin before relocating to the United States in 2015 to play for the University of Michigan Wolverines from 2015 to 2018.

Moritz excelled throughout his time at Michigan and was selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team in that year.

He was named Most Outstanding Player after helping Michigan win the Big Ten Tournament that year.

Moritz was selected for the West Regional and Final Four All-Tournament Teams during the NCAA tournament.

He was chosen by the Los Angeles Lakers as the 25th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was then traded to the Washington Wizards and later signed with the Orlando Magic in 2019.

Moritz has furthermore played for the German basketball team. Both Wagner brothers are now teammates with the Magic.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that any information is readily accessible showing whether or whether the athlete has a sister.

Family Franz Wagner

Beate Wagner and Axel Schultz are Franz Wagner’s parents. In Germany, his father played handball.

Axel worked hard to mold the player into a basketball player of the quality of Moritz, working closely with the athlete’s mother Beate, a freelance medical writer.

Beate sent him to study at Moritz’s alma mater, the University of Michigan.

The basketball player’s parents were there when he was chosen in the 2021 NBA Draft.

The player’s mother expressed her happiness at seeing her boys play basketball for the Orlando Magic. Due to the age difference, they were never exposed to young teams in Germany.

Wagner’s father gave him plenty of time and chances for practice so he could improve his basketball abilities.

His basketball skills were developed and he became an NBA player thanks in large part to the contributions of both of his parents.

Franz Wagner’s race

Because both of Franz Wagner’s parents, Axel Schultz and Beate Wagner, are from Berlin, the basketball star has German heritage.

German heritage is present in the Wagner family. Before his brother moved to play collegiate basketball in the US, the athlete and his brother, Moritz, were both born and reared in Berlin.

Later, the German basketball star went the same route as his brother.

Their father, Axel, was a professional handball player in Germany, and their mother, Beate, is a native of Berlin.

The athlete’s mother tongue was German, and he spoke it growing up. In Germany, he participated in club basketball before making his NBA debut.

Franz and Moritz have both played basketball for Germany’s young national teams in events like the Albert Schweitzer Tournament.

The Wagner brothers have a strong sense of ethnic and familial pride in being German. They are two of the rare NBA players with German training and birthright.
