Who is James Hetfield?

James Alan Hetfield, an American citizen and a Leo by birth sign, was born in Downey, California, on August 3, 1963. He is a singer-songwriter who is most known for forming the heavy metal band Metallica.

James was reared in Downey by his father Virgil Lee, a truck driver, and his mother Cynthia, a light opera singer. Cynthia was previously married, giving James two half-brothers and a younger singer; she also divorced Virgil in 1976.

James has frequently written about his upbringing; according to Christian Science, his entire family did not utilize medication, even though Cynthia was facing cancer. While Virgil passed away in 1996, Cynthia lost her battle with cancer in 1979.

James graduated from Brea Olinda High School in 1981 after attending Downey High School first. He started taking piano lessons when he was nine years old and took up playing the guitar when he was fourteen.

He quickly formed the band with his pals, but when their lead guitarist, Dave Mustaine, started causing problems, James and the other members fired him. Mustaine then launched the hugely successful heavy metal band Megadeth.

Metallica has published numerous albums over the years, with their eighth studio album, “St. Anger,” coming out in 2001. At the time, James had a serious alcohol problem and made the decision to enter rehab.

He spent seven months away from his band at a rehabilitation facility before returning sober. He eventually turned to booze and drugs again, though, and went back to the same rehab facility in 2019.

Death Magnetic, Metallica’s ninth studio album, debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts in more than 30 nations upon its release on September 2, 2008. James and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame on April 4, 2009.

James enjoys a variety of outdoor pursuits, including farming, beekeeping, and hunting. He also collects vehicles and motorcycles.

James likes to watch baseball, hockey, and football and supports groups like the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Raiders, and San Jose Sharks. He loves tattoos a lot and has many of them on his body.
