DeWitt was found shot to death on October 5 of the previous year in the parking lot of Sugarloaf Mills Mall, just outside Dave & Buster’s. On and off the field, DeWitt is regarded as a standout high school football player with a large heart.

His on-field performance was frequently featured on High 5 Sports as the Dragons upset Clarke Central High School in Week Six’s Game of the Week. He wanted to play collegiate football, according to many who knew him.

Richardson’s family claims that the incident was a botched robbery attempt while the teen was out with his girlfriend. DeWitt will be charged in Gwinnett County at 9 a.m.

Chandler Zion Richardson has been detained and charged with murder in the Elijah DeWitt murder case.

Elijah DeWitt, a promising football player for a Georgia high school, was shot and killed on Thursday. A court will see one of the two adolescent suspects again on Friday morning.

Chandler Richardson, 19, is charged with murder in connection with the death of the football standout and student-athlete from Jefferson High School, who was 18 years old. Investigators claim that on October 6, 2022, DeWitt and Richardson got into an argument before Richardson and another juvenile, Kemare Bryan, 18, fired the deadly rounds.

Police arrived at the Dave & Busters in the Sugarloaf Mills parking lot and found DeWitt lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. A few days later, Richardson and Bryan were taken into custody by South Carolina police. Both parties are charged with criminal murder and malicious intent.

The suspects, who are also teenagers, were apprehended and are being jailed in Anderson County right now. Both defendants’ bond was rejected by a court because she thought they would flee.

Each defendant was told by the judge, “You’re going to be here for a while,” and that they would have to wait until a subsequent hearing was set up since only a superior court judge could set a bond on the felony charges.

DeWitt’s girlfriend explains what happened.

DeWitt’s longtime partner Bailey Reidling detailed the tragic shooting’s aftermath as they were out with friends. She insisted that she had learned from a trustworthy source that DeWitt had run into the suspects a few days earlier at the same Dave & Buster’s. The suspects claim that DeWitt’s group was contacted and queried about whether they had any marijuana to sell.

Reidling asserted that she was unsure of how the shooter discovered that her partner had visited the evening before the shooting and that police were looking through their cell phone records.

Elijah stated that while Newton commended DeWitt for his performance on a seven-on-seven squad, she had traveled to South Carolina, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C. with her boyfriend.

Reidling shared a heartfelt picture of herself wearing DeWitt’s number and hugging his parents, sister, and other family members last week on the Jefferson High School football field.

DeWitt was a titan on the Jefferson High School football field, but according to his mother, he was also the most down to earth person with ambitions to play NCAA football. I want him to be regarded as a strong competitor with a tremendous heart,” said Elijah’s mother, Dawn DeWitt.

DeWitt’s father asserts that he has released from custody the two people charged with killing his son. Last year, a lot of people paid tribute to the well-known football star, remembering him as a “gentle giant” in their tributes.
