The Donna Monticone controversy, which occurred at the Yale Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) clinic, has drawn a lot of public attention. Read more details here.

Oxford-born nurse Donna Monticone worked at Yale’s REI clinic for reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She also handled the clinic’s controlled substance management as part of her duties as a nurse.

Additionally, following her fiasco at the Yale clinic, her name was mentioned in the media and faced criticism.

Not to add that she was charged with stealing fentanyl for her personal use and reinjecting saline into vials to make it appear as though no drugs were missing.

Additionally, a lawsuit was launched, and Donna even entered a guilty plea and completed her sentence. The Retrievals, a brand-new podcast from Serial Productions and The New York Times, has examined the incident.

In the meantime, Susan Burton’s five-part series The Retrievals provided information about the former Yale nurse.

Donna Monticone Scandal and Controversy Explained

The Donna Monticone scandal is still circulating online, and it has gained new interest after the debut of The Retrievals podcast.

Everyone is curious to learn more about the controversy. As previously mentioned, Donna worked as a nurse at the Yale REI clinic for reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

She covertly switched the fentanyl used to treat patients’ pain with saline. She may have caused 200 women to receive treatment at the facility over a five-month period in 2020 without the required medication.

In certain fertility procedures, the first surgical procedure is egg retrieval. Laura Czar, a patient, was adamant that she wouldn’t experience any pain throughout the treatment, but that didn’t happen because she reported that it was painful.

According to reports, Monticone began stealing fentanyl in June 2020 for her own use.

In order to make it appear as though all of the narcotics were there, the former nurse entered secure storage areas, took fentanyl vials, used a syringe to take the drugs from the bottles, and then reinjected saline into the vials.

Investigations also revealed that from June to October, over 75% of the fentanyl given to patients at the Yale REI clinic was tainted with saline.

In addition, some of the vials had diluted fentanyl while others contained merely saline and no medication at all.

A Look at Donna Monticone Yale Fentanyl Clinic Lawsuit

As previously stated, Donna Monticone became embroiled in a scandal in 2020 when she switched out the painkiller fentanyl prescribed to patients for saline. She is accused of tampering with 175 fentanyl vials.

Donna was also aware that a patient could sustain substantial physical harm if an anesthetic was not administered during an outpatient procedure.

About 175 fentanyl vials that Donna had taken from the Yale REI clinic and stashed in the clinic’s trash cans were brought by the nurse in November 2020.

Following the filing of a lawsuit, Donna entered a plea of guilty to one count of tampering with a consumer product in March 2021. She may have received a maximum ten-year prison term after that.

Monticone said at her sentence hearing that she started abusing the drug amid a traumatic divorce and custody dispute involving her three children. To your knowledge, a group of medications known as opioids is used to treat pain.

People are once more disseminating the news on social media as a result of the publication of a new podcast that described the 2020 incident at Yale Clinic.

Where Is Donna Monticone Now?

Donna Monticone pleaded guilty in March 2021 and then gave up her nursing license. The maximum penalty for Monticone was ten years in prison.

Nevertheless, Monticone was finally given a four-weekend prison term, three months of home detention, and a three-year period of supervised release in May 2021.

Since that time, Donna has avoided the media and now leads a quiet life.

Since none of the reputable outlets have disclosed any new information about her current way of life, more updates are still unknown.

Many individuals, however, are not happy with the penalty Donna received. On Twitter, someone said, “Not enough time from stealing medication from patients.”
