Attorney General Martha Coakley said of his embezzlement,

Darryl McCauley, 45, of Wilmington, misappropriated money from Cook’s commercial and personal accounts by transferring funds to his own accounts from 2004 to 2008.

In addition, attorney Coakley stated in a statement,

“For numerous years, Mr. McCauley misused his position as a family member to acquire Mr. Cook’s trust, and stole millions of dollars for his own personal advantage,” according to the complaint.

Darryl and his wife Erika were later found guilty of stealing at least $12 million from Cook and condemned to prison.

Darryl was sentenced to 6 years in prison, while his wife was sentenced to 3 years in prison for stealing.

Both the husband and wife were found guilty in 2010. Darryl was imprisoned for over 6 years on felony counts that included stealing and receiving stolen items. Darryl will be on probation for 13 years after he is released from prison.
