Archie Williams’ Story

It was December 9, 1982, when the crime Archie was falsely incarcerated—a 31-year-old woman was in her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when she was raped and stabbed in her chest and abdomen. In a line-up, Archie Williams was called numerous times as the woman became informed. At first, she could not recognize the attacker but shared that there was a person in one of the lineups that were very close to her attacker. Later, she picked up 22-year-old Archie in the line-up. After being—only around 70% positive, Archie’s alibi that he wasn’t at the scene of the crime, and the fingerprints found in the bedroom that didn’t belong to him, Archie was convicted.

On 21 April 1983, the jury found Archie guilty of “attempt murder, attempted rape, and aggravated assault.” And he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. While in prison, he realized that his only hope was “The Innocence Project,” and he kept writing to them for 11 long years. Finally, a re-examination of his case started in 1995 in New York and a motion for DNA testing was filed in 1996. Despite the denial of the plea, it was not until 2007 that the appellate court eventually ordered the tests to be carried out. The test results were not enough, however, and things went back to square one.

In 2014, a more efficient fingerprint comparison device called Next Generation Identification (NGI) arrived and the crime-scene fingerprints matched another man called Forbes. So, on March 21, 2019, all charges were dropped and Archie was released with a state apology.

He added that “You have the option to be either strong or weak, and you’re going to be tried and tested. I went to jail, but I never let my mind go to prison.”

Archie Williams Net Worth, Work, AGT Travel

As for his AGT trip, Archie Williams had the judges and the audience in tears as he performed his soulful rendition of Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” What’s more, Simon was so impressed that he said he would never listen to the album, in the same way, ever again. Besides, Archie announced that, after his audition, he received a phone call from Elton John inviting him to perform at Elton’s show. He added that,

“Out of all the people who have ever sung his music, that song there, he said that even with him, I gave it true sense. He started crying while he was talking.”

Elton also tweeted about Archie comparing him to Nelson Mandel. Although he didn’t have a job as of July 2020, Archie got countless donations for which he was grateful. He was also invited to the Steve Harvey Show, where he got a $5,000 check from My Magic Mud.

The wife of Archie Williams, Married, Kids

While there was no detail about his wife and children, we can’t even say that he was married. Incarcerated at 22, Archie Williams may never have had a chance to tie the knot.

So, is Archie looking for a woman to settle down with? Although there was a suggestion that he “sexually assaulted” Lovely Peaches (Brittany Johnson), it was not reported that the man in the video was Archie Williams. Since Lovely Peaches had a fair share of disagreements, this could only be a way for her to gain publicity. It is saddening that a man who has been falsely imprisoned for 37 years is found to be the victim of an exploitative person.
