Andy Serkis’ siblings were raised by au pairs since their mother Lylie, a British-born special education teacher of challenged children, was too busy to care for them. Because he grew up in both Ruislip and Baghdad, the director is of mixed race. Andy’s father is an Iraqi-Armenian, and his mother is half Iraqi and half-English.
