Facts of Melanie Perkins

Is Melanie Perkins Married? Relationship

Melanie Perkins, the CEO of Canva, is married to her longstanding boyfriend Cliff Obrecht. Both Fusion Books and Canva were founded by the pair. Obrecht popped the question to Perkins with a $30 engagement ring in Cappadocia, Turkey, in 2019.

On multiple occasions, the couple has stated that the majority of their wealth is donated to charity, which is consistent with their reputation for modesty. After Bill Tai invited her to monthly kite-surfing meetings, Perkins became interested in traveling and kite-surfing.

Melanie Perkins’ capacity to lead Canva to greater heights should not obscure the fact that she has overcome enormous obstacles to reach her current position. Even though she is only 32 years old, everyone believes she is just starting started.

How did Melanie Perkins start her Professional Career?

Perkins and her future spouse Cliff Obrecht co-founded Fusion Books in 2007. Fusion Books is a website that enables pupils to design their own school yearbooks using a drag-and-drop interface and a library of design templates, including images, artwork, and fonts.

Fusion Books was a tremendous success despite the fact that she had intended to work on her first project but was forced to transfer to another due to insufficient resources.

Perkins began working on Fusion Books at her mother’s home, with the assistance of her parents in the printing process. In the interim, Obrecht would call universities and colleges to locate new clients for the firm.

In a matter of years, Fusion Books would become Australia’s largest yearbook publisher, subsequently expanding to France and New Zealand.

CEO and Co-founder of Canva

Despite Fusion Books’s success, funding was running out. This prompted Perkins and Obrecht to seek out venture capitalists who would finance not only Fusion Books but also the company that would eventually become Canva Inc.

Initially, it was difficult to find investors, with Perkins alleging that she was rejected by over a hundred Perth investors.

The opportunity arose when renowned investor Bill Tai visited Perth in 2011 to adjudicate a startup competition. During a dinner hosted by Tai, Perkins and Obrecht were able to propose Canva, but they were unable to secure funding.

Tai instead invited them to successive kitesurfing gatherings, which also occurred to be IT investor gatherings. Some of these events took place in Silicon Valley, necessitating frequent cross-country travel for Perkins and Obrecht.

Even in Silicon Valley, many businesses rejected Perkins’ pitch until a former Google executive joined the team. Cameron Adams, a technical expert, joined the team and would aid Perkins in securing the funds that had eluded him for years.
