How did Carlos Lehder start his Professional Career?

Carlos Lehder’s criminal career began with the sale of stolen autos and drugs. He imported stolen American cars into Colombia and sold them in the United States. He was promptly hauled into custody for the crime.

After learning about it while incarcerated, Carlos planned to establish a career in international drug trafficking as soon as his sentence for car theft was completed. As a result, he became close to George Jung. George Jung was a skilled air traffic controller who also dabbled in narcotics trafficking by air.

Jung and Carlos each purchased planes to deliver drugs after making a small profit from drug sales. They bribed government officials to gain protection from the Bahamas government.

Because Lehder had considerably higher aspirations than Jung, their collaboration quickly fell apart. Lehder purchased Norman Cay, which served as his headquarters. He ousted the island’s inhabitants and seized complete control. Planes transporting cocaine from Colombia congested the island immediately.

He was in charge of bodyguards. He once advocated helping Colombia pay its debts in exchange for the right to distribute drugs because of his financial success. His political zeal grew, and he eventually founded the National Latino Movement.

Carlos Lehder’s confrontational demeanor was one of his most distinguishing characteristics. Carlos Lehder embraced Adolf Hitler’s views early on. The far-right party, which campaigned against extradition, was founded on Nazi ideology.

However, after his attempt to bribe Bahamian officials got international notice, the government began investigating the drug trade. His long-running business quickly broke apart. Pablo Escobar deployed his aircraft to rescue him after he became unwell while avoiding capture, and in exchange, he transformed him into a puppet. However, he was apprehended and imprisoned a few years later.

Some believe that Lehder’s antagonistic behavior alarmed other Columbian drug lords. Many individuals believe that Lehder’s allies betrayed him.
